There are a lot of folks that like to use the word sustainable when talking about food, but often don’t explain what they mean. Truly sustainable food production practices must be supportive of farmers, resources and communities by using farming and ranching practices that are profitable, environmentally sound and positive for communities. It must be economically viable because if it’s not profitable, it cannot be sustained. It must be responsibly sound for the environment to ensure our resources are renewed rather than being depleted; and it must be supportive of a good quality of life for farmers and communities allowing them to thrive for the long term. All three are related and essential for producing food in a sustainable manner. It therefore must reward the true value of producers, there practices, and their products. That requires traceability, which is what Authentic Beef Ranches is all about.
